Spirit Of Discernment: Navigating God's Calling, Modern Idolatry, & False Scripture

Season 8 Episode 20

Send us a text

Today, I sit down with Dan Parr, a voiceover talent who never planned on becoming a Bible translator or narrator—yet found himself called to do exactly that. Known as a “reluctant Bible publisher,” Mr. Parr shares how a simple reading during a life group turned into a four-year journey of creating a new translation and narration of the Bible designed for clarity and accessibility.

In this episode, Mr. Parr explains how he moved from posting a short resurrection story on Facebook to translating the entire Bible, Psalms, and Proverbs. He emphasizes that his goal was never to replace Scripture, but to lower barriers for people unfamiliar with biblical language and to point them toward God’s Word in a way they could easily understand. Along the way, he describes wrestling with doubts, hearing God’s persistence, and learning that when God calls, He also equips.

We also dive into how believers can discern God’s voice, the importance of prayer, Scripture, and fellowship, and how to recognize when advice aligns—or doesn’t—with God’s will. Mr. Parr shares practical encouragement for anyone struggling to hear from God, reminding us that He often speaks through His Word and confirmation from others, but always requires discernment.

Beyond translation, we talk about Mr. Parr’s career in voiceover, the impact of AI on creative industries, and how he sees God using every circumstance—even setbacks—to align believers with His timing and purpose. He closes with one of his life verses, Proverbs 16:3, reminding listeners to commit everything to the Lord and trust His plan.

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to another episode of Couple of Nukes. As always, I'm your host, Mr. Whiskey, and it's such a small world sometimes in the world of podcasting. Today's guest reached out to me, but I had actually heard him on an interview with my dear friend and mentor Johnny t host of Refuge Freedom.

If you haven't checked out that podcast, it's about real lives changed by the power of God. He's a great guy, and what they do in that ministry is so important. And yeah, I mean, he's changed my life a lot. And so I had happen to, every Friday he, I get a notification from him that an episode's out and every five to six weeks I'll actually listen to one.

And so I happen to listen to the one with today's guest, Mr. Dan Parr. And it definitely piqued my curiosity when I read the title. I said what he did. What, and so we're gonna get into it today. Mr. Parker, could you please tell us a little bit about yourself? Yeah. Thanks so much Mr. Whiskey a pleasure to be here.

Johnny t is a great guy. A lot of respect for him and what he's doing. So yeah, happy to have been on his show and just as happy to be on yours as well. So I like to tell people I am a reluctant Bible publisher and narrator, and I say reluctant because if you had talked to me five years ago, this would not have been on my radar.

Nothing on the map. Suggested that I would be doing what I'm doing today. However, as you know, God has an interesting way of getting what he wants done, done, and he will use reluctant people sometimes. And that was certainly the case for me. So yeah, I've come out with a new translation of the Bible amidst mu much protesting by me, and I narrated it as well.

I'm a voiceover talent, so I wanted to show the love of God by narrating a little bit of the Bible and God just. Saw that little crack of an opening and kicked that door wide open. So here we are four years later with a new translation of the Bible for sure. And I love the way you introduce it because the question I'm gonna ask you, not really, but in the way I imagine most people ask you is.

Who are you to write a new translation of the Bible? Are are, are you a, do you claim to be a prophet? You know, I'm sure you get a lot of lashback, which is actually why I checked out your episode. 'cause it said man writes his own version of Bible. I said, excuse me. And so I had to go, you know, check that out.

I'm sure it's something you've been dealing with for years. So can you give us a little background in, I'll call it the authority that you've gotten to do so? Yeah, well, I like to tell people right off. I'm not a Bible scholar. I'm not a theologian. I don't have a seminary degree. I shouldn't have done this according to my standards and what I think yet.

God had a different plan. He doesn't call the equipped. He calls those who are available. And equips those who are available. So here I am. I am a voiceover talent, but I am a passionate follower of Jesus Christ as well. And I have a heart that is willing to say yes Lord. And I think that's what he was looking for when I started all of this out.

It started innocently enough, I would read scripture in our life group and the leader told me, Dan, every time somebody reads the scripture, I always hope you're going to volunteer. I love the way God's word sounds when you read it. I thought, well, that's very nice, very humbling. Thank you. And I got the idea.

Obviously God implanted. I'm gonna do a little thing on my Facebook account about the resurrection of Jesus. I'll put it some text and words together and record it, see if people like it.  Did that, went to the book of Luke, looked at the resurrection story and I thought, I wanna rewrite this a little bit just to make it simpler to understand not changing the meaning, not changing really what the author's intent was, but just going to thought for thought.

And changing how the words were laid out on the page. That way it would be easier for people to comprehend if they didn't know anything about the Bible. If they didn't know anything about Jesus, they'd be able to read this, listen to this and say, oh, that makes sense. So I did that, put it up on Facebook.

Got some good response from it and thought, okay, well that was kind of nice. I enjoyed doing that, but I'm done. But God began to work on my heart and thought, what if you did the entire book of Luke? Wouldn't that be amazing? And I thought, yeah, that would be pretty cool, but that's a lot of work. I really don't wanna do that work.

But yet he persisted to have that thought nag in the back of my head. So I thought, okay. I'll do it. I'll do the book of Luke. Now. You can't just sit down and read the Bible and put it out there if you want people to purchase what you've done, right. And I thought, if I'm gonna do this, I might as well put it on Amazon and Audible.

Let people buy it if they want it. So I looked for something that's going to be in public domain, something that's free from copyright or trademark. And I found the King James version and I thought, okay. I looked at it, read a few, these ths, beseeches and mites and farthings and veles. And I thought, yeah, that's not gonna work for me.

I have a hard enough time understanding it, right? So if anybody who doesn't know anything about Jesus hears this, listens to this, they're probably not gonna get too into it either. I found another version that was in public domain called the World English Bible, and I did a little research on it and found it's a good faithful translation.

Has input from a lot of pastors, theologians, seminary students. Think people like that. I thought, well, this is pretty good. I kind of read through it and I thought, eh. I still think I could make this simpler to understand some of their word choices and sentence structure I thought could be improved for flow and readability and comprehension.

So I wanted to lower the linguistic barriers that I thought were there and just started going through it line by line, sentence by sentence, verse by verse, chapter by chapter. And finished the book of Luke and that took a little bit of effort, right? I was already, I was already working full time, already had a side business doing my voiceover work.

And this was just one more thing to add to the plate and I thought, okay, well glad that's done right. And so I got done with it, put it out there, got some good feedback and I thought, well, that's good. I'm glad people are enjoying. It wasn't too long before God comes knocking again. I just felt him say, you know.

The Book of Acts is really the book of Luke part two. Don't you think people need to know the rest of the story? I thought, yeah, but that's a lot of work, man. I'm already busy enough, right? Yeah. So, again, the persistence was there. So when you get into an argument with God, guess who wins? God does. Right?

So I I did the Book of Acts and I thought, okay, we've got it. Well, you can figure out the rest of the story. He continued to persist. I continued to protest. You know, I would be saying things like, God, we don't need another translation of the Bible. There are 900 versions out there. We don't need one more.

And I would say this to him frequently. And finally one day, I think he just got a little put up with it and said very gently, but firmly. Hey Dan, why don't you let me decide what we need and what we don't need. I thought. Okay. So that was it. I was off and I started doing it. Finished the New Testament, then did Proverbs and Psalms.

'cause I love Proverbs especially, and Psalms are great. Did that. And then I thought, well, okay, did the new, might as well do the old as well. Right. And it took a lot of effort, a lot of time, but four years later got it all done, put it out there and, people seem to enjoy what's been done, for sure.

One thing I want to address, you know, a lot of us who are believers, wherever we are in our journey, one of the things we struggle with is hearing God's voice or recognizing his calling in our life. You know, figuring out what God wants to do, what is his will. A lot of us pray and surrender ourselves, but we're still struggling.

How did you personally get to the point in your relationship with God where you kind of knew what he wanted with your life. I mean, you talk about, he comes knocking on the door. Right? What did that look like or feel like? What advice would you give people? Yeah. That's such a great question and I think it's so important to our religious faith, our walk with God, right.

One of the ways God speaks is through his word. And I think that's primarily the way God speaks. Now there are people who will hear an audible voice. That's great. You know, sometimes God can do that. God can do whatever he wants to do, but primarily God speaks to us through His word. And so when you are.

Immersed in the word, you become more sensitive to his voice. Now, me, I read the Bible every day. It's just a habit that I've developed and it keeps me grounded and it allows me to have a better relationship with my father. Now, that's one part of it, right? Being in the word every day and having a Bible reading plan where you are just going through it.

And being consistent. So I think that is critically important and set yourself up for success. You know, don't try to say, I'm gonna read three chapters of the Bible every day. If you're just starting out, you know, that's, that's a, that's a tough way to go. Find a good Bible reading plan and read, you know, five minutes a day, read 10 minutes a day.

In fact, you know, if you read the Bible 10 minutes a day on average, 10 to 12 minutes per day, you'll be able to read the entire Bible in a year. It's just true. So do that, right? Start out with a small goal. Read the Bible every day, and as you do it, things just begin to. I don't know, pop off the page sometimes.

Not every time you open the word but sometimes you're just gonna say, oh my gosh, look at that. Well, what does that mean? The interesting thing now that I've really enjoyed is having access to ai because I'll get into a scripture. I'll read something, I think, huh, that's interesting. What does this mean?

And so I'll go into chat GPT, and I'll say, what do theologians and bible scholars say about this verse? And then that way it's not just giving you some random stuff, it's actually searching what Bible scholars and theologians have said. And so you can kind of get a little deeper into your Bible study with help with ai. So one thing is just be intentional about your time in the word. Spend time with it every day and be in Christian fellowship. A lot of times God will speak to others to help guide you what you think he is saying. For example, I started this out because a Bible teacher, an instructor.

Told me he likes the way God's voice or God's word sounds when I read it. And you know, I had kind of been thinking it'd be kind of cool to narrate the Bible. I'm a voiceover talent. I love God. It seems kind of like natural fit, but that's a really big ask to do. So you know, other people will help you point to God's will sometimes.

Now don't just. Take whatever advice comes to you. You know, have some discernment, have some wisdom, filter it through the word of God, make sure it's in alignment with what you're kind of thinking already and pray about it. Prayer is a huge component of all of this, right? Be in the word, be in fellowship, be in prayer.

When you put yourself before God's throne, he is. Honored that you are there. You know, we think it's an honor to be there, but he's honored that you're there. He loves you. You're the apple of his eye. It says, my children will know my voice Well, the only way that you can know God's voice is to spend time conversing with him.

So spend time in prayer. This is not a quick process. It doesn't happen overnight. Well, I shouldn't say that. It can happen overnight. For some people, God can do it however he wants to. My experience is it just takes time. Right? Be patient with it. Spend time in the warden. Spend time in fellowship with other believers and spend time in prayer.

And God just makes himself known. He is God. He's a pretty powerful guy and he has a way of getting things done and getting messages across. So if he wants you to know something, you'll know it, you'll sense a tugging at your heart. A feeling, a nagging thought as it was for me. I just kind of felt like nagged.

To do it. And that's probably a bad way to say it. I felt you felt like a thorn in your side. Yeah, a little bit. A persistent push. I'll say that instead. So you know, just, those are the three main things though. Word fellowship, prayer, and if you start down that path, God is certainly going to avail himself to you and help you to understand, discern his will.

For sure. Like, like you said, don't just take everyone's advice for a couple reasons. One, not every believer you meet is actually there to support you or to support God. I've had plenty of encounters with as I call them, false prophets, false Christians, and also. Believers can be good people, but they're also people and they might not like you fully.

So, but the reason, you know, what I've started to practice in my life, about a year ago, I gave a sermon called the Rehoboam's downfall. And what I did was I talked about that story. For those who don't know, king Solomon's Unright Ray Bone. The people came to him, they said, Hey, your dad, great guy, but also not such a great guy.

Sometimes he taxed us heavily and this and that. And Rehoboam, he consults two groups, right? The elder council wise people who grew up with King Solomon and they say, Hey, you're gonna be a new king. Be a little less harsh on these people and it's gonna be a good time. Great advice. To be honest, the young, he, the young punks he hung out with, said you should threaten them to, to scores them with whips and scorpions and basically he goes there and he says, my little finger is thicker than my forefather's waist.

Right? So it shows one, not everyone's advice is great, but two, what I focused on in that sermon. Was that he did not consult God, right? That was who he needed to talk to more than anyone, right? Because people have all kinds of great and bad ideas. But historically in the Bible, you look at those who talked to God first and made decisions and those who just acted on their own.

And there's a pattern, there's a pretty obvious pattern. It's called all of Chronicles and Kings and yep, you know, everything before that, a lot of the great people in the Bible talked to God first. So I always say that, and I actually made a rule in my life that I don't always follow. But my rule that I try to keep at the forefront of my mind is when people ask me advice.

I always tell them, talk to God first, me second. But sometimes they come up to me and then stuff just comes outta my mouth. You know, I, I gotta read more proverb, but I try to tell people. Talk to God first, or we can talk to God together first. But I've realized I shouldn't be the first person to give you advice.

You know? So that I just say that. 'cause you mentioned, like you said, don't just listen to everyone. I like to call it as a lot of people say a spirit, a discernment, right? Mm-hmm. Navigate what is good and bad and being in God's word helps that. And I actually have two apps on my phone so that I get two different verses.

One in the morning, one at night. And a lot of times they have just lined up in my life in like an uncanny way. And I have found historically, if God wants me to know a Bible quote or preach it to me, ironically enough, I'll like get it on my phone and then someone will say in a podcast episode, I'm recording, or someone will say it on the street or, or at church to me.

I'm like, well, that's twice in one week or twice in one day. It's like, all right, I I hear you. I gotta pay attention to this. So I think. Even if you aren't able to dedicate the time to read just a chapter a day, which again isn't that much. I know some of those genealogies are rough. Trust me. The numbers is just, you get frustrated with these people.

But just having, like I had the verse in the morning, in the night, even just a verse a day. You know, it's great to constantly have the word hidden in your heart, meditating on it day and night. And I have to ask, you mentioned Rita in the Bible daily. Do you read your own version or do you feel kind of weird and you read like a different version?

So I actually read the Bible more than once per day in the morning. I usually read my own version at night. I usually am tucked up with the NIV, so I'm I'm reading both. Yeah. I was like, it must feel weird to read your own version and you, you're like. Huh? That's whoever worded this did a great job.

No, but I, I think it's good to read. I try to study different translations as well. One of the things that I've used AI for I don't use it to make spiritual discernments. What I do is I like to have it pull up historical context. Mm-hmm. If they mentioned a group of people, what's all this stuff you can bring about this time period, this stuff?

So I do like getting a lot of factual information like you said. Make sure you prompt it. Yes. To bring good information. Yeah. Because one of the things I've talked about on this show was actually I found false Bible chapters that were AI generated on the internet. Wow. The one I found was a fictional scene of Satan appearing at the crucifixion and talking to Jesus Christ, basically saying, this is all in vain.

Because a hundred years from now, 300 years from now, 500 years from now, they're gonna be listening to rap music in the, in the streets. They're gonna be shooting each other. They're gonna assassinate people it took all the modern acts of violence and sin and basically had the devil tell Jesus this was gonna happen.

It was all for nothing. And obviously I knew it was fake 'cause I've read the whole Bible but I went to the comment section and lo and behold, people who had never read the Bible or people who were of faith and just have never read the whole Bible, people who just attend church casually or even non-believers.

Wow, this is mind blowing. I can't believe the devil said this to Jesus Christ and he was right and there's, thank goodness there was like some good, you know, believers who were like, this is fake. This is AI generated. Like that is one of the biggest issues now too, because we could have an ai, you could literally prompt it.

I want you to make a scene. Where X, y, Z happens in the King James version or in the new international version. Like you can get it to mirror it so well, and they, they had the AI do a voiceover. They had this and that. They generated these images of the crucifixion and the devils there.

So there are a lot of concerns. You know, I think. We're in a war of Yeah. Saying, trying to use everything against us and God trying to use everything for us. AI is one of those things, you know, I don't believe it's purely Satanic. I believe that there's a lot of good that can happen. Mm-hmm. But it is one of those things you gotta be careful with, so.

Mm-hmm. I, I do recommend we have to be on guard at all times, and that's not just with ai, that's with everything, you know. Yeah, absolutely. Magazines with books, with everything that we're consuming in this day and age of. It's, I believe that we're still in a day and age of idolatry. Mm-hmm. Only the idols aren't golden calves or asterisk poles or, or burning kids to molik.

Right. I believe that celebrities in h weird, and one of my pastors call it h weird. I love that. I believe that our idols have become people, and I think that's even harder to see than, obviously if I saw a bunch of people worshiping a golden calf, I'd be like, well, that's idolatry. But if my friends were like, wow.

Taylor Swift or Beyonce or Kanye, whoever said X, Y, Z, and like they're really smart. They, they really know what they're talking about. That is harder for people to see as idolatry. I'm just curious some of your input on that. Absolutely. You know, it's AI is a tool, right? And that's all it is a tool.

It's like fire. Fire can either burn or fire, can refine, cast out impurities. AI is the same way. You can use it for good or you can use it for evil. You know, the choice is up to you, but you do have to be careful about what's out there. You know, and this is nothing new. Us dealing with this is nothing new.

Yeah. Paul dealt with this, the apostle, the early church dealt with this, and that's why we have the, the canon of the books that we have today. Right. Because these aren't the only books that were written about Jesus. Right. But there had to be a selection process. There had to be discernment. There had to be wisdom from the early church father saying.

This lines up, this does not. So that's why we have the 66 books that we've got now because they've gone through this refining process over really over hundreds of years. But yeah, that's why I don't really, I. Put as much faith in other Christian literature that is out there. Bible commentaries are great, but they're not infallible.

They're written by men, right. Bible dictionaries are great people that have written books about God. That's, that's all good too. But always have just a little bit of discernment and wisdom saying, how does this line up with the word of God? Is this how I see how it's been historically translated? Just use some wisdom with all of that.

So as far as idols go though, yeah, you're absolutely right. And I think it's not only people, I can be think, it can be things, your idol can be your job, your idol can be your family. You know, seemingly things that are not bad. But when you put too much of an emphasis on them and they take the place of God as first priority in your life, then it's an idol.

Right? If I think course. I'm gonna be working 60 hours a week because I'm gonna be number one at X, Y, and Z. Probably putting too much emphasis on that instead of saying, let me seek God first, and then let all these things be added under me. You know, John 1633, seek you first. The kingdom of God and all these things should be added under you.

Seek God first. May he be your first priority, and that's why it's one of the, you know, 10 commandments. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. Well, when you do that, you are putting most of your eggs into one basket. It's the primary goal, the focus that we should have

seeking God first, and then you don't have to worry as much about letting other things become idols because you are in right relationship with him. You're seeking him first. Bouncing things off the word of God, making sure that it lines up. And when you do that, you're just on a better path. Yeah, for sure.

I actually pulled up here, one of my favorite Bible quotes, and it's actually where I start my book, God versus In Human Spirit, still not published yet 'cause it got delayed again, but that's okay. What I started with is this is not a replacement for the Bible. Mm-hmm. This is not anything about anything.

Right. All it is is. Like I have Bible quotes on every page almost because I said the Bible is the book for life, right? And I said I start the book by quoting what I'm gonna share here, which is from Ecclesiastes be warned, my son of anything in addition to them of making many books. There is no end in much study Worries the Body.

And I, I love that because. We live in a day and age, not even more. With, with AI help where people are publishing new books every single day. You know, there are thousands and thousands, hundreds of thousands of self-help books of, as you mentioned, these, these Christian books. And the biggest, the biggest anchor for me is how much scripture is in that book.

How rooted is it? How far does it stray from the word? There's gonna be no end. I mean, kick on and predicted it right A long time ago. And he's right. People were gonna write books continuously. And I think on the good side, you mentioned talking about God, there's already so many translations. Why Another one?

I could say the same thing about my podcast. There's already so many shows out there on mental health, on self-improvement on this and that why My belief is that God. Knows the right time and place, right. He's gonna take each episode of, of my show. I call it his show. Most of the time he's gonna take each episode to the right person at the right time, whether I'm alive, dead, if it's today, tomorrow, or a hundred years from now.

Right? And I might be the medium through which they need to be reached. Whereas a show that does the same thing to me, they're not gonna connect with that person because of how many people there are, how diverse the cultures are, and how society has changed. Some people need a harsh Bible teacher, some people need a very gentle Bible teacher.

Mm-hmm. Same thing with literature. So I don't think the expansion of literature in itself is evil, but I think you, it comes back down to everything we've been talking about. Harping back on what is its anchor in the scripture? Does it redirect to scripture? Does it invoke you to go read the Bible and to just use this as a way to get interested in it or to kind of learn more about implementation?

I've read some Christian books that are great stuff. They were very based in scripture. They really emphasized you know, parts of scripture by using real life stories to show how it can be implemented or maybe. Saying, Hey, this seems really outdated, but let's look at it in the modern day, boom.

Mm-hmm. You know? So I think there's a lot of greatness with that. But I want to share that quote from Ecclesiastes because, I think King Solomon was right when he said that, it's even worse nowadays. So I just always say to use that as your discernment and then. What I want to get into too not too straight, too far from the Bible, but you talked a lot about voiceover talent and obviously you do voiceover of scripture, but what else do you voiceover?

I mean, were you doing like cartoons or other books and other work as well before you got into the scripture? Yeah, so we have, I grew up doing radio. I've been doing radio since I was 14 and was in it for a number of years. Got into a little television, got out of all that. Came to, I live in Nashville now.

Worked in publishing for a while, and that sounds. Kind of exciting, except till you realize or hear that the publishing was actually a more like a call center. And that wasn't as fun. But even through that horrible experience of working in a call center, God used it to bring something beautiful. And I met this beautiful, incredible Christian woman who later became my wife.

So outta the worst thing in my life came the best thing in my life. So let that be a little lesson for people to, to take away from that. But yeah, so I we started doing voiceover. I don't know, 15 years ago or so. Just doing it on the side, put our services out there and built up a little business where we would get scripts from people wanting messaging on hold.

There's a, there's a company out there that sells equipment to pharmacies and doctor's offices and auto parts stores, all these things where they do their messaging on hold and they, they sell the equipment. And they say, we can also provide a message for you for that, or a, you know, a seven minute message or so.

So we record those for messaging on hold, and then we do a bunch of really sexy things like e-learnings sexual harassment trainings and HR trainings and compliance trainings. They send us their scripts and we'll record those for 'em. What's kind of funny about it is that. A lot of American companies offshore, their work to India, as you may know, right.

The Indian companies can do it much cheaper because their labor rates are so lower so they outsource the. Work to India. India takes it and says, okay, we need to have an English voice on this. Well, a lot of them, they're English. You can tell that they're non-native speakers

so they will outsource the voiceover part back to us. So it goes from India to us. We record it, leave all the errors and stuff in it, send it back to India. They clean it up. Send it back to America. So kind of bounces back and forth between the Yeah, it kind of sounds like you're doing extra steps there, but, yeah.

Well, I mean, it, for us, it's, it's great, right? We just sit there and we take the script, record it. If there's an error in it, we just don't go back and correct it. We just rerecord the sentence and then they clean it all up. So primarily it's messaging on hold and e-learning. We've done, you know, commercials as well.

We've done, I've done one. Small film also, and some audio books obviously but primarily those things. I try, I I audition weekly for different projects. In fact, there's one that's out by Hallmark Channel right now for the date, nine days of Christmas that I'm in the running for. That's not uncommon, right? You will get down selected several times, but to actually land the gig, it's pretty rare. But our voiceover business has really taken a hit too because of ai. Yeah. And I think that's been God orchestrated as well. A lot of companies, they don't care if you show texture or layers or nuance in your voice when you're reading or try to add color or warmth or depth to it, to the script.

They just wanna do it, get it done, right. So if it sounds like a robot. They're pretty much okay with that. But other people, you know, they want the human element and God bless 'em because they still hire us. But you know, that's one of the things that's impacted us. But I think that's God driven as well, because when our AI or when our voiceover business became less and less, it gave me more opportunity to devote to doing the Bible and had that not happen.

I'd probably still be working on the Bible and it wouldn't be done yet. But because of a ai, it allowed me extra time to work on this. And now I see the wis God's wisdom behind all of it, right? He's the master chess player. He is moving things and people and getting things lined up to allow you to fulfill your purpose.

So, you know. I just go back to Romans 8 28. All things work together for the good of those who love the Lord and are called according to His purposes. God is sovereign. Overall. God knows what we need. God knows how to provide. He's not worried about the future, so I shouldn't be either. You know, I never thought that I'd be going on podcasts, talking to people about the word of God.

But it's been an incredible opportunity. To allow people to engage with God's word and help them get back into a rhythm of reading it on a daily basis. So, you know, he's doing that for this season of my life. Who knows how long that's gonna continue, but he's got it all figured out. I just have to be able to follow his leading.

For sure. I actually had been getting into voice acting. I went to voiceover Atlanta. I was auditioning weekly. Oh yeah. And that was around the time a lot of lawsuits were happening. A lot of petitions were happening because of ai. You know, I actually know a guy. People went up to him. We loved your voiceover.

You know, you're working the second video game. He goes, what? He had done the first video game and then the company had cloned his voice for the second video game. Obviously there's potential there, right? Yep. Because cloning someone's voice and using an AI generated voice are two very different things.

Absolutely. And it's, yeah, it, it is a shame. I am sick of, you know, I try not to go on social media in general, but when I do, I, I, I can't stand the AI voices. I just swipe past. It's like there. It's, it's horrible. And yeah, it's taken away a lot of jobs from people in a lot of different fields, you know, like AI artwork.

I'm not gonna say I don't use it 'cause I do on occasion. But it's everywhere. Like you can tell everything's becoming very copy paste, you know? Right. So it's but I like how you look at the positive side of it with like, hey, and I think that goes to not just. You know, voiceover in ai, but wherever you are in life, sometimes we feel like things are slowing down.

Sometimes it's to bring us closer to the Lord, you know? Mm-hmm. Whether you're going through a period of unemployment and you just can't find a job, sometimes it's to bring you closer to God before you go into the next big step of your life. Same with relationships. I know, especially young men of faith.

They got a lot of frustration with, you know, God, I'm reading your word. I'm doing everything right. Where is this wife of noble character? Right. You know, when I was a sinner, I could get women left and right Now that I'm looking for a godly woman, I'm stranded. God. I mean, this is, this is crazy.

So there's a lot of frustrations when it seems like things in our life are slowing down or not taking off. But it's definitely a call to spend more time with God. Sometimes just because we've gone a little too far from him or in preparation for something bigger. I love the idea, people said sometimes God doesn't give you a blessing 'cause you're not ready for it.

Right. And the example they'll give is, when you were 19 years old, you probably wanted, you know, God let me win a lottery, a hundred thousand billion dollars, whatever it was. Yeah. And at that time you would've gone and blown it on all stupid stuff. But now that you're. , In your late twenties, thirties, forties, fifties, where wherever it is in your life, or more importantly where it is with your walk with God, he knows you're gonna use it now for good things.

So I think a lot of times, God knows when we will waste opportunities and tries to help us, you know, not do so. Obviously there's plenty of times where we do that anyway, but I always rest in God's timing right there. There's a season for all things and I. The longer I've lived, the more I look back and say I can realize how things lined up.

So I, I think it gets easier, in my opinion, to have faith as we continue to get older because I can look back more and more and see how things line up. And for some people you look back more and more and you're like, that sucked, that sucked, that sucked. And you just get less of the face. So it's.

Really all about per perception. And that's why, again, getting back into the word daily and studying it is a reassurance of all those things. So I want to end this with what I always end with when I have a faith-based guest on, which is if you could leave one Bible quote for everyone to meditate on today or to store in their heart, what would it be?

There's a lot, obviously. I know you mentioned you love Proverbs, right? So I'm expecting one of those, but anything, anything that's on your mind. This one resonated with me when I was a, a young man in my twenties and I was seeking God's will and I was planning on moving cross country to start working at this upstart ministry that didn't know me and wasn't planning on hiring me.

But I was in faith going to move across country. I ran across this, verse, and it's from Proverbs, Proverbs 16, three, commit to the Lord, whatever you do, and your plans will succeed. Right now, Proverbs are not meant to be taken as every single time this is gonna happen. It's more of a general guiding principle, right?

Right. So you have to use wisdom and discernment when you're selecting verses, but commit to the Lord, whatever you do, and your plans will succeed. And that kind of means like when you commit your life to God. Things are gonna start to work out. It doesn't mean things are gonna go your way all the time, but they're gonna serve his purposes.

So I took that verse and I started just living it, right? I would think about it all the time. Well, I'm committing this to God, so things are gonna work out somehow. And then I got a Bible before I left for my father. I had not told him about this verse, but guess what verse he chose to write at the very beginning.

Just like I said, yeah. Exactly right. God has a way of getting you the messages you need to have. So that was confirmation for me that things were going to work out somehow. So I would say Proverbs 16, 3, 1 of my life verses Commit to the Lord. Whatever you do, your plans will succeed. And it kind of lines up with what we mentioned earlier, seek you first, the kingdom of God and all these things shall be added unto you.

John 1633. Right. When you're seeking God first, he has a way of lining things up for you. You're not gonna understand everything that happens. Bad things are still going to come across your path, but in the long haul, he is going to get you to the destination where you're supposed to be at. Right. And again, ladies and gentlemen, that commitment is the same as anything you do.

And anything you pray for, it's about the intentions of the heart, right? There are people who commit to God, murder, suicide, terrible things, right? And that doesn't mean, oh, because they committed to God. They said, this is for God. That it's gonna be successful or that they're going to heaven, or whatever it may be.

Across all religions, including whether you're Christian, Catholic, Muslim, whatever it may be, it's about the intentions behind it. Just like when we pray it, the Bible says, ask and you shall receive, right? But there's also a lot of scripture that says, Hey, it's about the intention of the heart

If it's malicious, greed, sinful, or harmful. So when you commit to the Lord, make sure you're talking to Tim him about it first. Make sure it's in alignment with the scripture. Yes. What we, that we think is good is not always what God sees as good. I love this quote.

There was a time where there, men did what was right in their own eyes. You know, you look at the time of judges and, and, and kings people did what was right in their own eyes, or, you know, there's a path that seems right, but at the end of it is death. Yes. Right. So I, I love those quotes. What God thinks is good and what we think are good.

Two totally different things. So when you're committing with a spirit, a discernment in scripture based. Absolutely. Yeah, it's everything's gotta line up with the word of God, right? He's not going to bless and honor things that are outside of his will. So that's one more reason why you need to be in the words.

You can understand what his will is. I. Right, and if you've been trying to read the Bible, but you're struggling, you don't understand, you know, this old timey talk, we've got a version for you that's simple to read right here.
